The Gold’s Gym Stride Trainer 450i rates as an entry level elliptical with features like most of the generic competitors within that price range, retailing at around $370 on Walmart and Amazon. Its specialty over the previous 450 model lies with iFit app compatibility, which gives users access to an extensive library of workouts, virtual running trails by Google Maps and fitness progress tracking. It has some decent features, but there might be other machines with lower prices that offer the same or even more.

– 14 preinstalled workouts
– 14 digital resistance levels
– 17” stride length
– Silent magnetic resistance (SMR)
– Large LCD screen with Target Pacer to track time, distance, speed & calories
– Dual handlebars with pulse heart-rate monitors on static handlebars
– Sound system with MP3/iPod compatibility
– Tablet and water bottle holder
– Cooling fan
– Transport wheels for portability
– Weight capacity: 250 lbs
– Dimensions: approx. 54” long x 26” wide x 63” high
– Shipping weight: approx. 125 lbs
– Manufacturer’s warranty: 5 years on frame, 90 days on parts/labor

The 14 built-in workout apps can sufficiently challenge users to get their sweat going in for an efficient cardio session. The resistance levels, along with the dual handlebars help create decent tension within the lower and upper body. Even though there aren’t too many “fancy” features on the 450i, the existent ones are reliable enough to deliver.

Build Quality

The elliptical does not rank all that great regarding durability. The overall feel of the machine does not say “rock-solid,” but rather something that will last you about a year and a half with regular use. However, the 5-year warranty on the frame should cover up any major issues that do arise. Although the 90-day labor and parts warranty is not appealing, at least the build quality on the frame is insured.

The shipping content weight 125 lbs and most of the machine comes pre-assembled. The remaining assembly is easily a one-man job and can be completely relatively fast. Word of warning for those who are expecting to hop on right away and start burning calories – it does not come with an adapter or batteries. The buyers need to manage those themselves.

Final thoughts

It is very apparent that the Gold’s Gym Stride Trainer 450i is an entry level machine that does not provide too many ‘wow’ factors. The machine will serve beginners well, but avid exercisers might struggle with the mediocrity of this machine. Also, brands such as Schwinn and Proform might offer better products within the same price range. As a light investment with decent output, this elliptical could be worth a shot. It definitely might not be the best one though.
