If your budget to buy an elliptical is $1000, than this trainer should be one top of your list (check our full list of top 10 elliptical under $1000).
Horizon is a well known name in the fitness industry; the company has a huge reputation in manufacturing quality fitness equipments that cater the needs of every man. If you require a well-designed trainer that would be pleasure to use as well then EX-79 could be most suitable for you. This unit has a whole range of innovative features that make it a high-end machine at an affordable price.
You might find it irritating to workout at a machine that is not made with a solid material and starts wobbling as soon as you get indulged into some serious workout. But this is not the case with the EX-79, because the materials that are used for manufacturing it are first rate and solid. The best thing about this elliptical trainer is that it is SIX star certified. It is meant to provide a comfortable and smooth elliptical training experience with its series of design features. These features include the reviews of people who have used the trainer and certain tests that were carried out to judge the affectivity of the machine.
Build Quality
Build Quality of this trainer is better than most of the trainer in this price range.
Stride length: it has 20 inch fixed stride. Usually 18 inch stride is comfortable for average users, this 20” along with the heavy (17.6 lb) flywheel provides a very soothing workout experience.
Both fixed and moving handle of this trainer are very stable and comfortable to hold. Fixed handles are well balanced, but to get proper upper body workout; we suggest you use the moving handles.
Pedals are only 10 inch high, so getting up on this trainer is easy.
Display & console
The main difference between the Ex 79-2 and the old model is their display:
Display shows: current programs, resistance level, heart rate, incline level, progress, time, distance, calories burned and fan speed. This blue backlit display is very easy to read in dark and in day light. Here is a closer look of the LED display
Horizon hasn’t made any chance in the button positions. Buttons are very easy to operate and self-explanatory. Such as: incline, fan, display, and goal centre and resistance level
Programs
There are 11 programs, such as: Rolling (resistance), mountain (resistance + incline), reverse train (resistance; cues you to pedal forward and backward). There are also target based workouts; you can set your target – time, distance or calories and workout your way. There is a 30 day goal challenge designed to help you motivated and lose weight (or build stamina). There are 2 customer programs you can customize yourself.
Warranty
This trainer comes with lifetime warranty on frame and brake. But for parts it only has 2 years warranty. Some of the users have complained about annoying clicking noise from footpads, which is covered in parts warranty. Incline motor and labour has only one year warranty. Please note that warranty is not transferable; means buying a second hand trainer will not transfer warranty privilege.
Conclusion
EX-79 proves to be the perfect option for those who are seeking inexpensive and quality fitness equipment. It not only provides great workouts with its power incline but its long stride also makes your workout experience much more convenient for you. Furthermore, you will not find such features in any other machine that has the same price. These extras include a bottle holder, fan, heart rate monitor and audio system. Because of the short warranty on parts and labor, we suggest you take a look at AFG 3.1 AE before buying this trainer.
